Choosing a domain name

There are a number of different factors in choosing a domain name and which factors are the most important will vary depending on a number of factors

1. Your brand name or keywords?
If you are trying to establish your brand name, to use that as your domain name is very valuable. However, there are definite search engine benefits in using keywords in your domain. It depends on your priorities which you choose

2. Should I use .com or .co.uk?
Either are fine. If you have a uk specific business, .co.uk can be preferable. Statistics show that UK customers are more likely to click on .co.uk. They are also cheaper to register.

3. What about other domain suffixes?
If .com and .co.uk are not available, .org.uk is probably the next best. There should be no disdavantage as far as search engines are concerned, but people are probably more likely to click on .co.uk

4. Can I use dashes?
Yes. It's preferable to use the non-dashed version if it's avalable - bluewidgets.co.uk is better than blue-widgets.co.uk. But if the non-dashed version is available go for it

5. How many words can I have in a domain?
Try to keep it short. Ideally one, two or three words. Only rarely does more than three words work
